Introduction to Funding Opportunities

Edited

What is a Funding Opportunity?

In Awards Management, each funding round that is available to researchers is represented as a funding opportunity. Researchers can search for available funding opportunities, and submit proposals for internal review and approval directly in Elements.

Past and upcoming funding opportunities can also be viewed.

You can find funding opportunities from your Elements homepage and search for them by

  • Status

  • Funding type (eg. contract research, early career fellowships)

  • Funder

  • Opportunity name

The funding opportunity in Awards Management contains all the information that researchers need to know to prepare for submitting a proposal for internal institutional approval, including:

  • A detailed description of the funding opportunity. This could include a more user-friendly explanation of the funder’s requirement. It could also include information on any research areas that the institution is keen to prioritise.

  • Eligibility criteria as determined by the funder, as well as any additional institutional criteria

  • Links to the original source of the funding opportunity (usually the funder’s website)

  • Contact details of the institutional contact/team who can help provide further information and support about the funding opportunity and what is required in the proposal. This usually the contact/team who coordinate the internal review and approval process.

  • A proposal timeline of all the key institutional and funder dates that are relevant to the funding opportunity, all in the one place

  • The ability to favourite a funding opportunity

  • The ability to share a funding opportunity with other users, and

  • A direct link to initiate a proposal for funding, to be submitted for internal review and approval.
