Publications Module - Roles, Home Page, Citations, Journal Statistics

During implementation, the Publications Module configuration is integral to the data migration exercise.

Several settings described below have a global override. If you are not familiar with this feature of Elements, please read the Overriding module settings article before proceeding.


Roles

Category Administrators can configure settings for a category, without giving them a System Admin role. System admin > Data category settings > Publications > Manage category roles.

Citation Information and h-index

You can choose to show or hide the various types of citation information and metrics.

  1. Navigate to System admin > Data category settings > Publications > Display citations & metrics.

  2. Check the boxes for the citation information and metrics you wish to be displayed to users. Uncheck the others.

  3. If you wish to enforce these setting across all Primary Groups, check the 'Override' box.

  4. Select 'Update'.

To customise these settings for a Primary Group:

  1. Disable the global override.

  2. Navigate to System admin > Users & groups > Group management > Manage groups.

  3. Select the Primary Group you wish to customise.

  4. In the Module settings section, expand 'Publications Module' and click 'Control display of citation information'.

Display of Journal Statistics

Elements will display journal statistics/ranking for publications that have an ISSN in the bibliographic data. The journal statistics data is also used in reports and charts. The following rankings can be enabled:

ERA 2010

The Australian Research Council (ARC) did not publish journal rankings after ERA 2010 (see the 'Why is the Ranked Journal list no longer used?' FAQ here).
This ranking is deliberately not displayed on researcher-facing pages.

Institution-specific

Your institution's own set of JCR Impact Factors can be loaded. System admin > Data category settings > Journals > Journal lists

You can control whether and which journal statistics are viewable on publication records:

  1. Navigate to System admin > Data category settings > Publications > Display journal metrics 

  2. Check the boxes for the citation information and metrics you wish to be displayed to users. Uncheck the others.

  3. If you wish to enforce these setting across all Primary Groups, check the 'Override' box.

  4. Select 'Update'.

To customise these settings for a Primary Group uncheck Override. Navigate to System admin > Users & groups > Group management > Manage groups
